UPDATE: I have spoken with representatives of the Federal government, and after waiting on hold for 45 minutes, I was told that the agency for which I was contacted to interview, has closed, meaning no more interviews for now.
Oh but you can call back next week and see if they have re-opened that specific location. Yeah okay, thanks.
And I almost forgot that today I will be losing my truck, my single most cherished non-living item, because we have to save money.
Just let me state for the record, I am not amused.
Well it has been two days since my teeth o wisdom were removed, and I still feel quite well.
The only adverse effects so far are that I am not able to eat most of the foods that I would like, and this irratating swelling.
And of course that really annoying proclivity to just pass out on the couch, due to the medication I am on. But anywhoo, I can see that the blogosphere has kept on turning in my absence, excellent.
Well it looks like there will be a promising and long overdue update on the job front. I have been attempting to get on staff in the IS department of a small liberal arts college that I attended, but that has been slow going.
So on a whim I applied for the baggage screener position that is open at Bluegrass International Airport. And for whatever reason, flying in the face of the fact that I have no security or screening experience I have been contacted for a second round interview.
Let's all hope that this pans out, if for no other reason than it is a government job, meaning short of shooting everyone I work with, there is no way I can loose it.
Gotta love this country.
Well I have just finished the newest novel in the Shannara series, Morgawr. And I have not yet formed a concrete opinion about it.
I am beginging to come over to the side of that this should have been one large book, in the tradition of Sword.
I was also kind of upset with the way that this trilogy ended, with not enough resolution. Hopefully the next series will not be that far off and will answer the hundreds of questions that are plagueing me and I am sure others.
Well I had my wisdom teeth removed today at 9:30 am.
Man it was wierd, my body has a more immediate response to foriegn elements, breaking down chemicals in sometimes a third of the time that it would normaly take. That coupled with my size, 278 pounds last time I checked, makes for an interesting experience for the doctors as well as my self.
Today the doctor was preparing to start, and I was still lucid! Not fun.
Most of the time I am not to happy about my genetic freakness, but today it has come in quite handy. I am already for all intents and purposes back to normal. The only change is that because of the stitches I am not able to talk to much and I am not allowed to eat yet. Other than that I have already completely recovered.
My wife Heather is happy and then not happy, since when she was in my position, she was out the entire first day, and most of the next. Say hello to gentetic freakness, and more importantly the healing prayers and thought si f the faithful of my parish and the Priest Father David.
Nothing more for now, need to go read the rest of my copy of the new Terry Brooks novel, The Voyage of the Jerle Shannara: Morgawr.
Later
Well MeanDean is at it again.
This time he is reminding us that we as +3cH +yPE PE0plE, should be spreading the word about the BlogMD initiative.
Of course he is correct. I was just formulating opinions on this subject before I added any content to the blog about it. I still don't have any concrete feelings about it, other than to say that it is good, and that it needs to happen, but not at the expense of the less technical.
I must admint that lately Crazy Apple Rumors has been one of my favorite stops on the web.
With the -radio edit- storm of Apple Rumors, it is nice to see a little inanity out there. I am seriously considering adding a left menu with my favorite rumor of the week.
I don't know yet. But until then, here are two gems for you: Linkback
In an act that has baffled many in the Macintosh community, Microsoft announced yesterday that it will bring its MSN service to Mac OS X in 2003.
"Really?" asked Macworld editor Rick LePage upon hearing the news. "Huh."
Thinking it over for a few moments, LePage added "Why?"
Indeed, that has been the question many have been asking.
MacAddict editor Rik Myslewski said "I'm sure I could come up with a number of very good reasons why Microsoft thought Macintosh users would be interested in being part of an online community centered around Apple's biggest rival."
Taking a big breath and slowly exhaling, Myslewski sat silent for several seconds.
"Well... maybe I can't. Nope! I guess I was wrong. I've got nothing. It's the damndest thing I've ever heard of."
Executives at Apple were equally taken aback by the announcement.
"I asked them five times," Apple CEO Steve Jobs said. "I said 'Are you sure you want to go to the trouble? Because you were a little upset about Office sales as I recall.' They said 'No, no! It'll be great! Mac users will finally get to do all kinds of fun stuff, like send email and surf the Internet and set up a Passport account!'"
Jobs shrugged and rolled his eyes. "I mean, what am I supposed to do? I'm supposed to promote companies making software for OS X, not talk them out of it."
If MSN proves successful on the Mac, Microsoft's Mac Business Unit has said it might consider bringing Microsoft Money to the Mac, causing another collective groan from the Mac community.
"It's possible they're trying to punish us," Myslewski finally said. "Anybody think of that?"

Excited about tomorrow night's release of Mac OS X 10.2, code named "Jaguar", Mac users where shocked to learn today that as part of a promotional gimmick, Apple will be releasing real jaguars in every Apple Store.
Located in the fine print of Apple's Jaguar release announcement is the footnote "*Includes the release of live jaguars. C'mon down!"
Responding to criticism from Macintosh users and consumer safety groups, Apple CEO Steve Jobs said "Boy, you people just complain about everything, don't you. '.Mac costs too much!' 'Jaguar costs too much!' 'I'm a-scared of live jaguars!'"
Jobs downplayed the danger involved in releasing jaguars in malls across the nation and denied it would be akin to setting up a giant buffet for the animals.
"Don't be a bunch of sissies!" Jobs said. "A maharishi in India taught me how to wrestle them years ago. Or maybe it was my spirit guide in the Brazilian rainforest... Well, whatever. It's easy!"
"The secret," Jobs explained slowly, "is to not let them bite you. OK?"
"Oh, and watch out for the claws, too. They're like razors. Rowr! Ha-ha!"
Industry analysts suspect this last-minute stunt may be a sign Apple is not entirely sure OS X 10.2 is bug-free.
"By keeping people away from the Apple Store," the New York Times' David Pogue speculated, "they reduce the number of people buying the update and the possibility of wide-spread negative backlash."
Apple representatives denied this was the case.
"I wish it were that simple," Apple Senior Vice President for Worldwide Marketing Phil Schiller said. "It's really just that Steve has this whole 'Jaguar' thing going on."
"He's always saying things like 'Did you know the jaguar is the largest cat in the Americas?' Or 'Did you know the word jaguar means a beast that kills its prey with one bound?'"
"Yes, Steve. We know. You've only told us fifty times."
"Anyway," Schiller sighed, "we're still counting on people to come out and pick up a copy of Jaguar. But, if you're a slow runner or you have an open wound or have recently handled raw meat, feel free to order a copy from the Apple Store online instead."
Apple suggests that those planning on attending the release of Jaguar arrive in the middle of the day, when the sun is hot and the jaguars prefer to rest rather than hunt. Also, people should wear multiple layers of thick clothing and leave small children at home.
Yeah that was nice.
From around 1998, source - Cluetrain Manifesto > Signers:
Man was I an idiot or what?
For all the pomp and circumstance that the manifesto generated, as well as the unarguable truth it contains, nothing has changed, and the flippin site hasn't been updated in three years! This serves as a sad illustration for my argument that initiatives and movements predicated on the idea that we as individuals or consumers can "change the course of |- insert problem -|" is ridiculous. It has been three years and counting since the manifesto generated media attention, and I challenge you to find me three examples where the ideas set forth in it have been the impetus for any kind of change in big business advertising or marketing, anything.
Not gonna happen. As K said in MIB:
Well said Tommy Lee Jones, well said.
This is my first full day of working under Mac OS 10.2 Jaguar and boy do I love it.
The return of spring loaded folders, iChat, Quartz Extreme and many others. But some of the best improvements are not readily identifiable. There are minor interface tweaks, that I wouldn't have noticed if it weren't for the fact that I have been examining the Human Interface Guidelines put forth by Apple in preperation for my software titles.
All in all this is a very impressive release and should help the Cupertino Kid, and his band of merry men gain a wider market share and fatten the checkbook of the fruit company.
Yeah, can you feel it?
In just under 3 hours MacOS X.2 Jaguar will be released on the world. All your unix are belong to us.
Excellent.
And in other news, it seems that KB has finally gotten around to fixing the last remaining link to blogs4God, as I mentioned here.
Now if he could only fix the link that should be poining here, but is pointing to his own site...
Ha! Have at you!
My dock menu is fully functional. When clicked it gives you a list of sites in your personal database, and launces them in your default browser when clicked. Now on to refining the app.
At this time the dock menu doesn't refresh when you add a link to the db. You have to close and relaunch the main viewer window first, but hey I am pretty happy with it so far. Now I need to implement the import and figure out the refresh of the dock menu and I am done.
Found at a site that needs a little healing as MeanDean would say.
I am continualy amazed at the ability of Frederica Mathewes-Green to convey complex, confusing concepts and topics in such a way that a three year old wouldn't lose track of the conversation. My journey thus far on the road to Orthodoxy has been made more meaningful and joy-filled because of the words of Mrs. Mathewes-Green.
This article is another fine example. Go and read it; then go and search for more by her.
