Entry: And the Winner is

Meta & Errata

Michael has posted on his site about his victory, so please go there and congratulate him as well.  I appreciate the visit here, but he is the Big Winner, not me!

Well the contest is over, and the vote has been officially tallied.  And look at that the Big Winner is Michael Heilemann.

I would say that this outcome is surprising, only in as much that Michael was up against some huge competition.  I was expecting it to come down to Shaun Inman and Ryan Sims honestly.  And again, this is not because of any deficiency in Michael, I hold that he is one of the most influential designers in the WordPress community, if not the most influential.  I view Michael as my design Nemesis (3rd defintion in the list) in the WordPress community, so I am quite happy that he won actually.

The Results

So now that we have that out of the way, lets see what the final totals were for each combatant in this no-holds-barred Design-Foo Budokai.

  1. Michael Heilemann (19)
  2. Dunstan Orchard (3)
  3. Cameron Moll (3)
  4. Jon Hicks (5)
  5. Ryan Sims (17)
  6. Shaun Inman (7)
  7. Ryan Keberly (2)
  8. Jeremy Hedley (2)

So that is it for 2004, ahhhhh feels good to have good design actually represented.  And by all means if you have not, take a gander at the comments in the original article, some very good reading there.  I think this was a good beginning, but I do agree with some of the comments left in the original article, so I am going to do some serious work to draft some rules and procedures to make the Second Annual Non-Stupid Weblog Awards more comprehensive and exciting.

Parting Remarks

All Hail Heilemann!  Indeed Your Design-Foo is Strongest!

So all that is left, is to say Congratulations again to Michael and to get the Design-Foo belt in and mail it to him, then somehow coax him to post a pic online of him wearing it.

I have to say that these awards rank way higher than the joke that is the 2004 Weblog Awards. I still shudder just thinking of the 1997-esque logo.

I thought it was a hard choice between Michael Heilemann, and Ryan Sims, maybe the two of the greatest blog designs on the net! Congrats Michael
