New Plugin

I am not actually sure what I want to call this yet, it is equal parts Noteworthy Plugin and Post/Article Karma System.

First some background.  The always industrious Michael Heilemann requested help to write a custom plugin.  I thought nothing of it, since I wasn't really able to follow what Michael hoped to accomplish by this.

Silly Rejoicing

The last site problems were just vanquished by the genius that is DrBacchus.

Through much travail and frustration he was able to diagnose my mod_rewrite woes and get us back up and running.  So thanks be to you Dr Bacchus, destroyer of mod_rewrite sillyness, thanks be to you.

A Good Laugh

I was just tipped off by a friend that SCO.com has been hacked.  Now as another online friend commented, "aren't they like, hacked everyday?"

Why yes I suppose they are, but this one is brilliant, since it is not readily recognizable.  The hack is only one image, and made so well that you culd easily miss the text of the image.  Just brilliant.  Or as Dr. Dave commented, "maybe it's just their new honesty-based policy."

One could only hope.  For posterity here is a screenshot of the defacement, enjoy.

Silly Problems

I just wanted to drop a quick line and let you know that there are some problems around this silly place.

Last night around 12:45 my server Jesuit starting freaking out, mainly due I am sure, from the fact that I have been running the WWDC Preview of Tiger on it since, well, WWDC.  Things have been going along great with only minor problems that I could live with, of course until this morning.  In the middle of some work on this site Jesuit kernel panicked, and upon reboot during the launch of startup items flew into a kernel panick... everytime.

So I was forced to boot into Safe Mode and move the 5 sites that I host off of Jesuit and move them to his old brother Titan.  There were a smattering of problems with this move, which of course all manifested themselved on my site only!  I have sorted them all out except my mod_rewrite woes.  For some reason i can't get rewrite working on Titan, so for now we are back to the old index.php/2004/11/ structure.  Hopefully I can get this put to bed pretty quickly.  Sorry for any inconvenience.

New look

I have been trying to brainstorm a new layout for my site for the past 2 weeks, with little success.  Today I finally hit the wall with the old layout and decided to throw it out and put up something quick and dirty to hold until I can get something firm in place.

So this is my interim design, Clean and Fresh, if you missed it the previous layout was called Persian Rug.  I will be releasing Persian as an Open Source WordPress theme in the coming weeks, complete with imagery.  And yes, before you say it I completely and utterly ganked Michaels brillaint font choice, and the idea of the number next to the title.  For my purposes that is the permalink for each article and not the comment link.

What can I say, when you see something good, you steal it.  But you always give credit.  Thanks Michael.

Go ahead and leave any comments you have about the interim design, there are some aspects of it I really dig, and will probably incorporate into what will become the permanent layout.  All in all, not bad for 2 hours of CSS hacking.  Oh yeah, and I am back to no images used in this layout!  Man I love CSS only layouts.

Happy Thanksgiving

I just wanted to take a moment and wish everyone a Happy Thanksgiving.  I personally have much to be thankful for and I am grateful that as Americans we have this opportunity to stop our hectic lives for a moment and appreciate each other.

New Experiment

I have begun work on a Flash front end for a WordPress powered site.

This is going to be a pretty long and involved process, since I am having to marry Flash with php and a MySQL DB, but I have already made pretty good headway in my first day.  Once completed to my satisfaction I will be releasing it as a "Theme" in much the same way that Michael has released Kubrick.

Heather and I are about to leave for a little family get-together time in Statesboro, GA so things will be quiet around here.

NaNoWriMo 2004

Well it has begun, NaNoWriMo 2004 is upon us.

I will be trying my hand at it again, this will be my third year and hopefully this year I can win.  My novel this year is titled The Great Misfortune of Being, and I haven't decided what it is about yet.  Should be fun though... it always is.
