As you read this, I am on the road, driving the benz to Columbus to speak at the Ohio Linux Fest. It has been strange preparing for this engagement, since for the first time, my slides won't have any code in them!
All the talks I have given to date have been covering specific types of technology (XSLT) or methods for using technology (Apache 2 on MacOS X). Never have I spoken about trends, and philosophies in conjunction with technology. This certainly should be interesting.
A twitt from Jeffrey Zeldman, tipped me off to the presence of a new Apple Online Store. While I agree with Mr. Zeldman that the underlying code is a wonder to behold, I am distressed by how busy the site is. The layout is to crowded and confusing. Would a bit more whitespace hurt? Oh and Good one Jina!
That's right folks, the slayer of photoshop for all the hobbyists out there has finally arrived. Now lets see if it can live up to the hype. Check it out.
Sam Ruby, Mr. RSS, pointed out that WordPress 2.3 'dexter' has added "full atom 1.0 support, including the publishing protocol" which is a major accomplishment, trust me. We added Atom 1.0/APP support to Habari in November 2006 and it was a laborious task.
The spec is an ever shifting landscape and worse still, there aren't many platforms that implement the protocol correctly. One thing that I noticed in Mr. Ruby's article was that he played some kind of role in the WP implementation. We (being Habari) would love to have some recommendations on our Atom implementation. We are not silly enough to think we have it nailed perfectly.
So Mr. Ruby, you have the time to lend a hand to a young and impressionable open source project?
Looks like I was right. The next iPhone update adds TV out options among other things. Man I love being right. Can't wait for this one to hit iTunes!
That's right, the old place has a new coat of paint. Although I really liked the previous design, it just didn't give me enough flexibility.
I had planned on starting a new series about WordPress MU, but the site design as it was just didn't lend itself to that sort of thing. So I decided to back off the series until I had a design that fit more with what I wanted to accomplish with Sillyness. So out came some new colors, a revamped logo, and the most striking change, a grid.
Just reminding everyone that this Wednesday is International Talk Like a Pirate Day. And to help you get into the season appropriately, I again offer up my Talk Like a Pirate Day desktop wall paper. Grab it and flaunt it!
The man, the myth, Michael Bishop has released a new theme for Habari that he lovingly crafted, named "mzingi" which means 'foundation' as skippy notes. Michael is very much foundational himself, so the title is apt. Everytime you use the manual in Habari, you are benefiting from his work. Thank the man!
When you witness the power of this fully operational web server! The CIO of the College I work at let us know today that we are getting a new webserver. Nearly 1 terrabyte of space, 4 gigs of ram and dual quad-core xeons. Bow before it, bow!
There is a new interview with me up at Design Interviews. I talk about WordPress, Habari and being the Web Architect for a higher education institution. Good fun.
