BlogAid

I, along with many others are participating in BlogAid.  While I wasn’t “cool” enough to get an invite from Andy (I’m looking at YOU Heilemann! heh.) I do, for whatever reason have a healthy readership.

BlogAid

I have pledged the revenue generated by this site for the month of January, possibly longer, to the cause.  Following Michael’s lead I am also pledging any donations I receive for Persian and my hacks and plugins for WordPress.  I also have decided to donate any royalties I receive from the sale of my calendar.

The Pitch

You can read more about this on the Charity Page.  If everyone who has downloaded Persian donated a dollar, I could be sending $350.00, at least, to help the victims… take a moment and think about it please.  Andy is not a big fan of the blog owners asking for help in this… with respect to him its not his call how I generate the revenue that I will be donating (as long as its legal of course).  The power of blogs has always been the community that grows up a round the author(s) and the conversations that happen.

Parting Words

Right now we in the blogging community have the opportunity to have one of the most important global conversations yet.  All that we have seen and reported until this moment has been a prelude to the main act.  Now, you and I, Joe Shmoe and his buddy Every Man can save lives by doing nothing more than giving a few dollars, money that to us is of no real consequence, but to someone devastated by the fury of the storm, this money means life for a son or daughter, a husband or wife.

Can there be a more important conversation that you and I can have, somehow I can’t see any way for there to be.

Please make sure that accepting and relaying donations is legal, tax-wise. I suspect that if you actually received $350,000 and donated it, the IRS would find some way to get a chunk of it, and it would be a *huge* shame if you ended up paying more than your annual income in taxes for your good deed. I greatly applaud your effort, and would not want you to get penalized for your good intentions.

    Dr. Bacchus,

That is a good point, but I doubt that I will get that much in donations. I haven’t recieved any to date, depressing but to be expected.

Also I am not sure how that would go down really, if everyone gave me one dollar US, how would they even track that? Hmm.
