Yes, yes I finally got around to releasing my plugin that I use to add hearts and stars to my posts ala Binary Bonsai.
It is fairly well documented and easy to add to your site, take it for a drive and let me know what you think, the next version will include user rating, and a function to list your top-rated articles.
You can grab Rate-it! from wp-plugins.org, and soon from an archive on this site… somewhere. Stay tuned.
Oh and if you are having problems with the unicode HTML entities you can change the icons to whatever you want by finding $heart and $star at under the function rating_icon (3rd function in cjd_rate_it.php) if you want to use images just change the HTML entity code to the path of your image:
$heart = '<a href="/path/to/my/great/image.png" title="my great image" />';
That’s all for now.

Chris,
This is a sweet plugin, thank you for making it public! I found a slight bug. You say to put the admin_rate.php file in the site root, this however breaks if the blog is not on the root level of the site. In my case, the blog rests at secretweaponlabs.com/words so I went in to the plugin code and changed all references to admin_rate to words/admin_rate. All works great now!
Thanks again!

Ant,
Your first problem looks to be an extra line/space at the end of the file. Open up cjd_rate_it.php and make sure there isn’t any space after the closing ?>.
When you have done that come back and we can talk about why the plugin might not be working for you.

hi Chris,
I installed your plugin, but could not get it to work. I placed the necessary codes inside the index.php template, but I cant see the vote items.

Great job on the plug-in Chris. Now that I have unicode going on my laptop and home pc I can see the nice little symbols. It is good however that custom icons can be made and used for those that can’t get unicode up and going. Now, where is that pesky Recent Commenters plug-in hiding?

Good work Chris. Excellent plugin which will find many uses as people figure out a brand-new way to make their best writing/picture/podcast stand out.

Ant, yeah in the readme it says that is the only function that is available at the moment.
The next version will support users rating.

Chris I solved it by adding image tags in the php code.
But now I have a problem because users or visitors cant rate the posts? Only the admin can vote on them?

Hooray for all of you!! And especially you, Chris, for finally getting it out in the open.
I however have been using it for quite some time now, thanks to some nagging from my part :)

Aww Chris, it’s ok, if you want to keep that beauty for yourself, that is fine. You did make it afterall and if it is to be a Sillyness exclusive, so be it :)

Wow, so that’s what the hearts on your site mean? I had been wondering what they were after i saw them on a few people’s sites. Good job!

It will show the ratings if you are logged in, and using the template that you put those bits of code in.

Oh, right. I get it…
Last question, I’ve put this
"php rating_icon($post->ID);" and "php if_admin($post->ID);"in the theme template. Will it display the admin rate tool with every post I make? Because I just recently made a post and can’t see 1/30/50 ratings..

Bilal,
There are no stupid questions, only stupid people.
Thankfully you are not a stupid person. If you need anything else don’t hesitate to ask.

Ugh, still won’t work for me.
I copy/pasted what you posted above. Or I guess I shouldn’t have?
Don’t I have to use the img tag?

Sorry I don’t see any examples of this even on your “Binary Bonsai” posts…
Can you point me to an obvious example of what this plugin does?
Thanks!
