So I have access to one of those fancy iPod docks with the video out and IR reciever, so I thought I would see what functionality, if any, I could coax out of my iPhone.
Unfortunately I don't have any video on my phone at the moment, so I can't really test the video out, but I do know some things. Currently you can do the following:
Things that you currently cannot do:
I am really hoping that future updates to the iPhone software improve the interaction between the iPhone and an iPod dock with remote. One good bit of news is that I can rig up something for the iPhone in my car, and use an apple remote to interact with my music. Not having to take you eyes off the road++.

iPhone doesn't have video output, which is kinda lame. Hopefully this will be added via some kind of update? iPods can do it, why not my iPhone.

Ah, but that is something to think about, isn't it David. Do we really know that there is no video out functionality built into the iPhone?
As far as we know the iPhone hasn't been tested adequately to determine this fact. Right now we are just going on Apple's word.
It will be interesting to see what happens in the coming months.

I havn't heard anything about video out either, which is very surprising. Surely if it possessed this functionality it would be one of the selling points Apple would of stated.
It may come via a lead/interface in the future.

Ah, but just because we havn't heard about it, doesn't mean it doesn't exist.
