Meta & Errata

Well as you can see things are back to ‘normal’ now. I still haven’t received any communication from Dreamhost, which makes me more than a little angry.  Maybe it is time to start looking into Textdrive and Media Temple.

It seems that my host Dreamhost has decided to take a nap.  Most of the sites I host there, as well as the sites of some of my peers (Stan, Khaled and Clint) are now back online and functioning, but the one site that I need to work is still out of commision.

Yes after I wrote this entry, I finally was able to get to Dreamhost’s blog and find out that they indeed had been affected by that brownout.

The point is that I shouldn’t have to load their blog to find out, I should have had an email with an apology for the hours of downtime I experienced in my inbox the moment power was restored.

I’ve been looking at the new VC deal over at Textdrive, too… I mean, I know this wasn’t Dreamhost’s fault (although they should have had those backup power generators working!), but this isn’t the first problem I’ve had with them lately.

Yeah I am noticing the same thing, I am assuming it is just leftover from the brownout. It is actually pretty difficult to pick yourself back up after that kind of event. It seems that they also lost some hardware during the outage. I would give them 2 -3 days to get back up to snuff.

If we are still seeing these problems on Monday, then it might be time to think about moving.

And here I thought it was my ISP going on the blink, since I couldn’t access your sites either. I also think that they should have sent us an email at least, they haven’t even updated their announcement section in the control panel, which is a bit weird.

Also I don’t really get what happened to their generators. I design these systems for a living, so whatever consultant monkey designed it, and cowboy contractor who built it have go to really rethink their design, if 4 generators don’t go online something really stupid has happened.

On a completely unrelated topic, Clint, fantastic work on all the Tricky stuff, I LOVE Tricky, how the hell did you land that gig (apart from the talent bit of course).

BB had 5 hours of downtime. But (mt) mailed me and everyone else to let us know what had gone on.

I’m a little irritated with DH as well. A new personal site that I’m working on is hosted there, and when I finally got some time to work on it yesterday afternoon I couldn’t access it. I realize that hosting is not an easy job, but a courtesy email when everything is back up and running with a little explanation would have been nice.

Have you noticed any of your sites on Dreamhost running a lot slower? All of my Dreamhost sites seem to take forever to load, especially when in the Admin section of Wordpress. Quite annoying.

That really sucks. Do they at least have a 0 downtime policy? Can you get some money for your troubles?
