Always wanted to make your own comic strip? Today is your lucky day. Check out Bitstrips, and do let me know when your masterpiece is ready for me to read.
If you are a fan of comics, then you should really check out A Comicbook Orange. Great reviews and fun dialog make this a keeper.
The first images of the Mach 1 suit have hit the web-waves. I am pretty happy with what they are doing so far. I am a casual fan of Iron Man, not a fanatic but if this is what we have waiting for us, I am excited.
I have been kicking around an idea for a comic for a while now called ‘User Group’. It is a synthesis of geekery and ridiculousness that fits snugly into the fabric of SsWi.
I am a huge fan of sequential art and have produced a couple of home grown books in the past, so this isn’t new territory for me per se. The main difference is that I have become… disenfranchised with art and comics over the years and find it hard to get motivated.
The thing is, the more I think about the introductory story arch that is brewing the more excited I am getting. Excited enough to finally start sketching. Now all I need to do is convince two of my favorite artists to lend me one of their characters for the arch and we will be set.
I hope to be posting about this more in the future as things progress, so stay tuned. As a bit of a teaser here is a sketch I did just a couple of minutes ago with my WACOM:”(I am using a PenPartner, which is not really for this type of thing. I am hoping to drop some cash on a nicer tablet soon.)”: tablet. The introductory arch story makes use of Brent Sienna from Player vs Player and Hawk from Applegeeks, so here is what my Brent would look like… maybe:

Like I said a quick sketch. Hopefully fortune will smile on me and Scott and Hawk will be generous enough to lend their characters to my opening story arch.

Well I have now seen Spider-man 2 twice, and I must say that it stil holds up even after the initial fan-boyism has worn off.
The movie is not perfect by any means, but I think it is now officially my favorite sequel. Danger! Danger Will Robinson! Danger Spoilers Ahead! Consider yourself duly warned.
Here is a little comic for your edification.
Calvin and Hobbes for September 11th
No, No, you don’t have to thank me, doing good is its own reward.
Well it seems that Mr. Hibbity Gibbity and I have started a trend… somewhat.
Andrew over at Mooncalf has posted a pic of himself that it strangely reminiscent of some pics on this site.
Well they say that imitation is the sincerest form of flattery…
Well just for Mr. Hibbity Gibbity, here are some links to the history of the Incredible Hulk.
First up is a pretty well put together site, if you overlook the frames that is, called The Hulk Library. Among other features is a really well presented History of the Hulk. The only thing that this site doesn’t cover in real depth is the different Hulks and why the exist. So for that info you go over to incrediblehulk.com. Here you will find the Pre-Hulk Banner History as well as the useful Hulk Incarnations Page and the Hulk Enemies Page.
So True Believers, good reading to you but be warned there is high bandwidth ahead, each of these sites makes use of large images, so be prepared for less than optimal download times.
Yeah I know it has been awhile since I have blogged about my first artistic love; Sequential Art or comics for you less pretentious.
Honestly the state of comics for the most part creates a large vaccuum, and so don’t warrant a post by me.
But today true beleivers, I have ran across a subject that shakes me to my very foundation. Marvel, the only comics publisher that really means anything anymore, has dained it appropriate to screw Stan Lee; one half of the team that is responsible for the greatest Super Heroes comics the world has ever seen.
Apparently Stan Lee contracted with Marvel to recieve 10% of the profits from any movie based on characters he created. Marvel stiffed him on Spider-Man, stating that they had seen no profit from the most successful comic book adaption ever. Spider-Man has already grossed 400 million in the US alone.

In response to Tim’s request I have added this little diddy about the other infamous Clone Saga, namely the Ben Reilly arc from Marvel Comics Spider-Man. In theory this could have been an insanely well written and thought out arc, the possibilities of having two webcrawlers was great.
And not to mention the fact that I really dug the whole Scarlet Spider getup. Web shooters on the outside and such. There is a pic of the two here. Now if you are like me and have always wanted to know what in the world was going through the minds of these men and women at the time, your prayers have been answered. In this, 35 part column some of the writers and editors involved explain what was going on. They are currently up to part 33.
Enjoy.
