PostgreSQL support landed today, giving Habari 3 databases we support out of the box. Rawk.
“…Habari mostly lets you concentrate on the ideas and gets out of the way of the code”
Man, it has been a good couple of days for those of us in Habari land.
Yesterday we added two more commiters to the project, Ali Al-Wasity and Michael Heilemann. They both have been doing amazing work on Habari, and it is a real sign of our commitment to the meritocratic model that we extended membership to them.
This brings our commiter pool to 22. Just fantastic. If that wasn't enough to make me smile, I found out this morning that Habari has been added to the FreeBSD Ports Collection, and we are well underway with some of our translations.
Speaking of great work, Owen lit a fire under our collective butts and we are hard at work getting Monolith in shape and ready for release. You won't believe some of the insanely cool things we have coming.
It is safe to say that steam is being picked up and Habari is set to take some major leaps this year. I hope you are all along for the ride.
“…Habari is object-oriented. Habari supports database independence. Habari uses an MVC model to separate templates from logic. Habari supports multiple template engines. Habari has a database schema that was designed for efficiency from day 1. Habari has a different kind of community supporting it, one where people who show the ability, willingness, and responsibility to act within the community get the power to do so. This is the iceberg tip.”

Hmm, interesting. Maybe a new authentication plugin for Habari so you can allow people with google accounts to login and create content? I must investigate this.
Although we didn't make it into Google's Summer of Code this year (although we were told we made the short list), that doesn't mean that we have abandoned the idea of mentoring young coders.
The Habari Community has announced our Summer of Collaboration 2008. We might not have any money to give you, but we do have one of the most inviting communities you are likely to find on the internets.
If you have a desire to push the boundaries of todays web technology, and work in an environment where each person's vision is given equal weight, then I look forward to working with you this summer.
Today the Habari Community is proud to announce the immediate release of the third major version of our blog software.
0.3 contains over 100 bug fixes and enhancements as well as the beginnings of our admin redesign. Many hours of work were put into this release by the Commiter pool, and more importantly the community that has grown up around Habari.
I would like to personally thank Andrew da Silva, Sean T. Evans and Michael Bishop without whom this release would not have happened. Go read more on the Habari Project site.
Sam Ruby, Mr. RSS, pointed out that WordPress 2.3 'dexter' has added "full atom 1.0 support, including the publishing protocol" which is a major accomplishment, trust me. We added Atom 1.0/APP support to Habari in November 2006 and it was a laborious task.
The spec is an ever shifting landscape and worse still, there aren't many platforms that implement the protocol correctly. One thing that I noticed in Mr. Ruby's article was that he played some kind of role in the WP implementation. We (being Habari) would love to have some recommendations on our Atom implementation. We are not silly enough to think we have it nailed perfectly.
So Mr. Ruby, you have the time to lend a hand to a young and impressionable open source project?
The man, the myth, Michael Bishop has released a new theme for Habari that he lovingly crafted, named "mzingi" which means 'foundation' as skippy notes. Michael is very much foundational himself, so the title is apt. Everytime you use the manual in Habari, you are benefiting from his work. Thank the man!
Everyone give tinyau a round of applause! He relaunched his site yesterday, now powered by Habari. Welcome home man.
