That is Halo 3.
I am not sure if it is because this game is a mess of nonsense, or because I played Gears of War fist, or because I am just not a Halo fanboi, but I am really not enjoying this game.
It isn’t anything specific, more of a general feeling of crappiness. The gameplay is pretty formulaic, and while the graphics are very well done they aren’t the most stunning I have seen in a 360 game. I have yet to play any multiplayer matches which might help the game rise on the crappy meter… but I doubt it. I require kicking solo gameplay as well as great multiplayer to curry my favor.
So my console loving friends out there, I pose this question to you. Am I missing something here?

I think so :) — The greatness that is Halo 3 is in the subtleties, particularly in the level and audio design. But, it’s all here and here.

Oh I read your reviews when you posted them, and they were half the reason I actually decided to play it. I despised Halo 2.
I guess the rub here is, you are able to appreciate the game from a technical level since you are in the business, while I just want to sit down and have a couple hours of fun gameplay.
I am at the end of the game… I think, so I will reserve final judgment until the end, and then post a new missive.

I was totally unsure of this game. I’m not much of a first-person shooter type gamer but the peer pressure really worked on this one. I’ve only just started the game but I have a feeling that once I work my way through it I’ll only be playing multiplayer games.

This is a relief, I thought I was the only one. While I enjoy the multi-player, I don’t love it like I do with COD4. Forget about single player, I never finished the single player in Halo 2 and probably never will for Halo 3. That is saying something.
I bought Halo 3 and have had the urge to play it maybe once or twice. Maybe it’s the overhyping, but I don’t get what all the fuss is about. It’s good, but it’s not the best thing ever.

Halo (and 3 in-particular) excels at the mindless-arcadey-Doomish shooty-shooty and is great fun for bursts of group killing (especially with similarly minded friends) but not much beyond that.
Ive still to get COD4 but probably will soon. Im looking for some online fighting in a similar vein to the fun Ive had previously with Socom and Socom 2 (despite sucking ferociously at it) on the PS2 many moons ago and so far COD4 seems the closest competitor

Am I one of the few peeps that bought halo 3 and didn’t like it?
Although I agree there are some great technical and audio points Im not buying the game for that, Im buying the game for its playability
Its like saying Im buying my ferrari for the cupholders and sound system.

Say what you will about the single player part of the game. To me, Halo 3’s multi-player is the best of any game I have ever played (including COD4 and GOW). Don’t knock it till you try it and learn to use the battle rifle as your primary weapon. Headshots!
