User Group a go… sorta

I have been kicking around an idea for a comic for a while now called ‘User Group’.  It is a synthesis of geekery and ridiculousness that fits snugly into the fabric of SsWi.

I am a huge fan of sequential art and have produced a couple of home grown books in the past, so this isn’t new territory for me per se.  The main difference is that I have become… disenfranchised with art and comics over the years and find it hard to get motivated.

The thing is, the more I think about the introductory story arch that is brewing the more excited I am getting.  Excited enough to finally start sketching.  Now all I need to do is convince two of my favorite artists to lend me one of their characters for the arch and we will be set.

I hope to be posting about this more in the future as things progress, so stay tuned.  As a bit of a teaser here is a sketch I did just a couple of minutes ago with my WACOM:”(I am using a PenPartner, which is not really for this type of thing. I am hoping to drop some cash on a nicer tablet soon.)”: tablet.  The introductory arch story makes use of Brent Sienna from Player vs Player and Hawk from Applegeeks, so here is what my Brent would look like… maybe:

My version of Brent Sienna

Like I said a quick sketch.  Hopefully fortune will smile on me and Scott and Hawk will be generous enough to lend their characters to my opening story arch.

Great looking sketch. I’m intruiged to see where this will lead…

Very cool drawing. Don’t you be putting yourself down just yet :).

I can’t really use my tablet for freehand sketching from scratch. Just doesn’t have that feedback that pencil does. It’s weird but true. It’s great for colouring in and other things but actual pencil art, not there yet. Do you get the same feeling?

    ooh! This is exciting!!
A Silly comic section. That’ll be cool.
Will we be part of your character ;)

Davis website, and some of his latest entries and you will see that he uses both regular links, and a hybrid version of linknotes. This allows you to separate what directly effects your article, and what is just a matter of interest, or something that might be useful. I’ve taken a liking to this way, but I will still be playing around with how I intend to use linknotes to its full advantage. [...]
