What is up with Battlestar Galactica?!

I just got through watching the 90 minute season finale, and I mean what in the world man?

I will give this a few more days before I talk about it in any real depth, since some of my friends out there in internet land have yet to see it, but man when you do.

And what is the dealio with Starbucks hair?

It’s a one year later dude..!

Yeah I know, but what, there are no scissors/knives/sharp bladed objects on New Caprica?

It’s just the writers resorting to an easy cop-out way of making it way too clear times have changed, what is old is new; what is new is old; the world is not as we left it, yadayada; and anyway, I think it looks cute.

Man, I was not happy at all when it ended. The whole time waiting for/hoping that someone would ‘wake up’ or something.

I’ve thought of a couple possibilities for Season 3 that could be reason for them to take this route at the end of Season 2. But none the less, a dissapointing episode to say the least.

I watched it after getting home (waaaay to late) from the pre-conference SXSWi parties and I was totally thrilled at how it ended. If there is anyone out there who still wants to argue that the original series is better… this season ender just beat them to the ground. Ballsy ending and a nice way to segue into this series’ Baltar openly collaborating with the Cylons.

    The factions in the Cylons.
    The Pegasus and Galactica surviving.
    Flawed tragic characters.
    Cylons having spiritual beliefs.
    Near-real world space physics.
    Realistic naval environments, terminology, etc.
    No Muffet or Boxy.
Richard Hatch’s character in the new series.

It almost makes the original series a fantastical dream that was rudely interrupted by the new one.

RE: starbuck’s hair situation… my personal hypothesis is that baltar, in his new position of authority, has taken it upon himself to remove all sharp objects from the civilian population - just in case :) he’s probably ordered all barbers and hairdressers to gather up all the gel in the fleet and keep it (along with the confiscated scissors) aboard Colonial One, so he can finally have the Gaius Salon he so clearly deserves.

I agree with the faction that found the finale to be a spectacular achievement in awesomeness. I like it because it was ballsy and brutal and realistic - the colonials got what they paid for when they elected Baltar! I was a little nervous about the final two episodes when I heard the rumors about the time jump and whatnot, but when I saw the look on Gaius’ face when he was soiling himself in front of the Cylon Welcoming Committee, and then the centurions marching through the tent city… oh, waves of joy, how they washed over me! I think it’s the best show in the world, and I would marry it if I could.
