What an Idiot.
From around 1998, source - Cluetrain Manifesto > Signers:
Chris Davis, CEO, head designer, thecollecive, soon to be theEkleKtic(then became ConceptHaus, Inc.) - "The overwhelming simplicity of your manifesto, conveying such basic principles with unadulterated power and inarguable validity. These basic truths are the beginning of a new era in buisness."
Man was I an idiot or what?
For all the pomp and circumstance that the manifesto generated, as well as the unarguable truth it contains, nothing has changed, and the flippin site hasn't been updated in three years! This serves as a sad illustration for my argument that initiatives and movements predicated on the idea that we as individuals or consumers can "change the course of |- insert problem -|" is ridiculous. It has been three years and counting since the manifesto generated media attention, and I challenge you to find me three examples where the ideas set forth in it have been the impetus for any kind of change in big business advertising or marketing, anything.
Not gonna happen. As K said in MIB:
Individuals are smart, but people are dumb panicky animals, and you know it.
Well said Tommy Lee Jones, well said.
