Fiction 504
Tomorrow when Apple Music goes live, so will my return to making music.
Or so Apple claims, since my Apple Music Artist Page has supposedly been approved. For those who aren't in the know, many moons ago when I was just a little beard, I was in a number of bands and dabbled in Electronica and House music.
I released many terrible albums, under many different names, but the one I liked the best was Fiction 504, so my music will be henceforth released under that moniker. I am a trained singer, and have fun forcing a handful of instruments to make acceptable music, so I will be combining my love for electronic grooves with some live playing and singing.
Let's get this out of the way
Make no mistake, this will all be terrible, terrible music. I am making no claim to quality here. It all comes down to having the itch to make new music coupled with how easy it has become to record, master and release music. You have been warned.
It is definitely an interesting time for music. Never has it been easier and cheaper to get your music out there. This is both a boon and a horrible, horrible detraction to the quality of the music we have access to.
While we are tearing down barriers that stop unique voices from joining the fray, we are also tearing down the defenses that stop terrible, horrible, derivative voices from joining the fray.
And yes, I am probably in the second group, so in advance I apologize for the onslaught of mediocrity that I am about to unleash upon you. Eh, take the good with the bad I say!
Apple Music will be an interesting experiment for independent artists like myself. Can we use the tools that are provided to build a wider audience for our music, or is this just another Ping waiting to happen?
Time will tell as always, but I have to say I am hopeful, since the people on board this time around have a greater sense of the music industry, from a creators standpoint, than any one at Apple, Inc. had previously.
