Well the Matriarch of the Davis Clan has returned to her fortress of Reno in Indiana.

While this is a sad occurence, the Lord of Woodspointe is made happier by one small fact. I have regained control of my computer and internet!

But now again I am despairing. Only out of the loop for 5 days and I miss this post out of the depths of Frittsland. While Basil the Greying has made some excellent points, I beleive he has overlooked one possible solution to the problem, which by the way is one of my pet peeves.

Update your content and layout design to reflect changing technologies and standards. Sites such as Clue Train are infuriating to me. Once built they are left to rot in the digital space. The layout and design hasn't been updated since its inception. The content hasn't been updated since I signed the manifesto, in 1999. Basil points to the origin of the problems that he encoutered there, but not the mentality that allowed those conditions to exist. Apathy.

Apathy in u_i design, standards support and accessability. People just don't care. And therein lies the rub. At this moment there are far more terrible sites and designers operating, than well crafted sites created by conscienious designers who care about thier users experience and design laws.

The state of the net, can be likened to that of a wounded man. Parts of him are infected with gang green, and must be lopped off. What cannot be saved (in this case redesigned with standards in mind) must be discarded. The net is suffering from an apathetic wasting sickness. Heres hoping that a cure can be found before the aol homepage sites take over.
