Reign of Fire

My wife and I have just returned from a free viewing of the movie, Reign of Fire. All in all I have to say that it was an enjoyable movie. The premise is quite intersting and the acting is beleivable.

Of course being who I am I began to question certain assumptions and leaps of logic the movie was predicated on.

Attention: Spoilers ahead.

For instance, by the year 2010 the human race has been decimated and only isolated communities of them remain. Nuclear weapons are emplyed as a last ditch effort to stave off the dragon advance. The end result is that we do more damage to ourselves than to the dragons. My problem is thus; Why didn't we build underwater habitats?

The technology exists today, and within the sea resides all the elements that are needed to support life. We could build huge underwater bunkers and wait out the dragons. In the story line they fed on the dinosaurs, and when they had depleted the food supply, the few that remained went into a deep hibernation. We could wait them out and when they went into this deep sleep, come out and wack em'. But anywhoo, it is definatley worth a matinee price.

UPDATE

On further consideration I don't even see how we were overrunn by the dragons in the first place. The main weapons used to down the creatures in the movie were sharp pointy objects. If a whale harpoon can take out a dragon in one shot, then I don't see how the militaries of the world with thier advance weaponry couldn't defeat them. Just doesn't make since.

My former opinion still holds though, it is a movie worth seeing at a matinee price, just don't go in hoping it will not make huge leaps of logic. Leave your disbelief at the door.
