The force of nature that is Terry Brooks
This entry is about my experience being at Joseph-Beth for the signing and reading by noted author Terry Brooks.
Right now my wife and I are sitting awaiting the arrival of the man of the hour, and I am wondering why he continues to visit this area with the terrible turnout these sort of things generate here. Terry is actually going to read from the yet unreleased novel in his next series, and there are only around fifty, maybe sixty people here at the most.
This is the man that single handedly redefined the genre of Fantasy, drawing comparisons to the likes of Tolkien.
Well the man of the hour is here, so I will stop talking now.
Terry made a funny. Oh lord he has made around 10 funnies. And he has brought the cover for his soon to be released memoir Sometimes the Magic Works Very nice.
The best funnies of the night were when someone would ask him a question, and he would simply grab the cover and hold it up and look at it, then put it down and go, "Next Question", of course then we would all laugh and he would actually answer the question, but hey it was still smooth.
Well now around 7:25pm there are maybe 80 people here, and some on the upper level listening, my faith resotred!
Well I am amazed at seeing and hearing the master speak his own work, there is something magical about him reading his own work, and adding sound effects to areas that gives you back that childlike enthusiasm for the next book.
Tune in tomorrow and I will talk about the excerpt he read and what lies in store for us in the new books.
