I downloaded this nifty app, Tinker Tool 2. Unfortunatley the nifty things that this extension for the preferences pane enables under 10.1.x, are already enabled in 10.2. But until then, it is nice to have access to these features.

For instance you can set the icon of hidden apps to transparent, and actually put the dock on the top of the screen, and the all the way to the left or right.
