Hi. I installed the plugin and tried two different wp api keys but neither of them were accepted as valid. Any tips?

I’ve downloaded the akismet.php and put in in my plugins file in wordpress content management system. Whenever I activate it, it doesn’t ask for the apikey, but without it the site doesn’t work, because it does need the key. Where and how do I activate the key!?? Please some help.
