Hmm… Coda. Dont think so.

New app from Panic that certainly looks shiny, but I don’t think it will be shiny enough to tear me away from my first love TextMate. Most of the user interface stuff looks hot, but I am not sure how much it actually will add to the user experience. I have downloaded it though and I am going to give it a try. Check out Coda.

Coda looks cool, but… Being a Windows user for some time, where new IDEs (and text editors) are a dime a dozen, it’s always nice to try something new that looks nice. My experience is that editors that look good are not always the best at editing.

I mean, this is the exact reason why people still use vi and emacs in the shell rather than revving up a GUI.

Maybe Coda is a good editor, make sure you give it a good trial before you decide. From what I’ve seen, it’s missing some of the neat TextMate features, but many people don’t use all of those.

I completely agree with you. I simply don’t think Coda has enough advantages over TextMate to make me switch. A lot of bloggers have been getting all hot and heavy over it, but I simply can’t say I’m interested in severing the ties with the lovely TextMate.

    Owen,

From what I’ve seen, it’s missing some of the neat TextMate features, but many people don’t use all of those.

Yeah I know what you mean, I am a power user when it comes to TextMate, and I don’t even use half the available features.

    Matt,

I simply don’t think Coda has enough advantages over TextMate to make me switch.

The one thing I can see that Coda has going for it is the integrated FTP/SFTP client. That is the one thing I wish that TextMate had integrated. Maybe someone could make a bundle for TextMate that itegrated some FTP like functionality…
